About Mark

Mark Lee FCA CTA(Fellow) is Chairman of the Tax Advice Network and a past Chairman of the ICAEW’s Tax Faculty.

Although Mark remains available to speak at events for accountants around the UK, his other activities as summarised below and on his personal website, are now constrained by his focus on the Tax Advice Network.

This is the UK’s largest network of independent tax specialists providing tax support to smaller firms of accountants. The network also publishes a unique weekly tax update email written specifically for accountants in general practice. For a limited period registration on the website and for the newsletter is free of charge. As Chairman of the network, Mark devotes much of his time to developing and promoting the website and the tax adviser members of the network.

Having spent 25 years advising on tax and achieving a great deal in my tax career he realised that he had stopped getting a buzz from giving tax advice. “However, the profession has been so good to me over the years that I couldn’t walk away completely. And part of me missed the high profile role and responsibility I had when I was Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty. I now feel I have regained that voice in my role as founder of the UK’s first independent network of tax advisers.”

Mark spent a number of years running the tax support for professionals team at WJB Chiltern and has been actively involved in a number of online communities. “The entrepreneur inside of me was keen to build a new business that took advantage of modern technologies and facilities. I thought about the issues that accountants raised with me about what they liked and didn’t like about other tax support operations. It became clear that there was a place for a centrally branded and promoted facility that enabled accountants to obtain direct access to independent self employed tax advisers.”
Essentially all of Mark’s activities revolve around helping accountants and tax advisers to build more successful businesses. “The Tax Advice Network fits in very nicely and gets a mention in most of my lectures and seminars.”

Background

Mark qualified as a Chartered Accountant (not the boring type) in 1982 and then worked his way up to become a partner in two top ten firms of accountants.

He was the elected Chairman of the Tax Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) for two years from April 2003-2005 . During this time he was also an ex-officio member of the Council of the Institute.
